you to go bigger when MOST women end up going back to their post op visits and telling their PS's they wish they had gone bigger! You would think they would urge you to go bigger so there isn't any disappointment later! Just wondering because everybody that I have ever talked to wishes they had gone bigger! Why do you think they don't talk to you more about it? And maybe some PS's do!

Well if they get you to come back and go bigger they make more money?? That is my take.
The first PS I went to said he would give me 600cc's if that is what I wanted. I just didn't like his work. So I know the PS I went with may not be willing to make me bigger if I want to upsize in the future??? Sooo some PS will just refuse for you to go bigger in size. |

I had exactly the same question before my BA, and I never got a clear answer. Now I am post BA, and I am very happy with my size. But that is beside the point...
The first thing my PS told me is this: "Not every size implant will look beautiful on every woman". So, although a woman might wish she had gone bigger, that doesn't necessarily mean that if she had gone bigger she would have been happy with the outcome. Its no doubt a difficult job for the PS to figure out how to get the woman the most volume while still trying to make a beautiful shape. I believe that is I had gone any bigger it would have looked ridiculous on my body. I also had a constriction of the lower pole, which means that the distance between my nipple to my IMF was very short. If my PS had given me very large implants this area of my breast would have had a hard time stretching out, and it might have looked straight and not rounded from certain angles. For me, I really wanted nice beautifully shaped breasts. This was just as important to me as the size of them - so I listened and trusted my PS. I am very glad that I did. Another concern of any good PS is to make sure that the patient has less risk of having problems with their implants. Think about it, the bigger the implant the more risk of serious side effects, and that is one serious reason that any good PS would prefer to be conservative with the implant size. It's a fine line between trying to make the patient happy and pushing the limits of to body as far as it can go before the chance of risk increasing. No PS wants their patient to have complications. I'm sure that there are some PS's out there who will go too small so that they can get more $$ for a redo, and any PS who does this shouldn't be one that you go to in the first place. Make sure to research your doctor and his credentials and reviews from other patients if possible. Go with a well respected PS who takes pride in his profession - not some jerk who is in it for the money. I think that a sign of a good PS is one who will not just cater to what the patient wants immediately. Sure, you are the one to spend the money and live with these implants, but you are not a plastic surgeon a professional in a very specific profession. Imagine if someone told you how to do your job but they had absolutely no experience in it except for some research they had done over the internet! I'd be scared... You need to be able to trust your PS from the get-go. You need to believe that what they are suggesting is because they really believe it is the right thing for you. More about riskes: Of course even the smallest of implants carries major risks the very same as larger implants (capsular contracture...yikes!). But there are certain risks that do increase the bigger you go. Here is some interesting information I found about the increased risks of larger implants. Patients who seek large breast implants run a greater risk of serious side effects associated with their plastic surgery. A good plastic surgeon will never urge a patient to go with large breast implants that push the limits of the body and have an increased risk of adverse side effects. A good plastic surgeon will evaluate the costs and benefits of large breast implants in a patient based on the specific anatomy and health of a patient. Many plastic surgeons have options that allow you to test the fit of implants before you choose a size that is most appropriate for you. Risks of Large Breast Implants There are a number of adverse consequences that can result from large breast implants. * Depending on a particular patient's anatomy, she may not have enough skin and breast tissue to sufficiently cover large breast implants. This can result in greater visibility of the large breast implants as the edges may become quite noticeable. * Women who seek large breast implants also run a greater risk of surgical complications and a greater likelihood of needing subsequent procedures to fix problems with the initial surgery or its effects. * Having large breast implants also speeds up the effects of gravity which can lead to earlier droop and sag of the breasts. * Large breast implants cause the natural breast tissue to expand. If you ever decide or need to have large breast implants removed, your breasts will sag considerably more than they would had you never had the large breast implants fit. * Women who choose extremely large breast implants also have a greater risk of suffering health problems related to back pain, should strap groove and other problems associated with excessively large breasts. Hope this helps!

My PS' nurses and finance person told me, "if you think they are perfect, then go a size bigger". Up until the 2nd month, I was freaking out cuz I thought they were too big. I am sooooo thankful that I trusted them 100%.

Funny - I had a breast REDUCtion and I was worried about going too SMALL! LOL My husband was even MORE worried so my doc was very conservative. Result - from a probably G to a bursting out of a double D! Six months later I had it done again - and I'm the C sometimes a D that I envisioned. I'm not even 5 feet tall - so it's a perfect size for me.

it is the PS job to serve the patient. If he makes a suggestion and you go along with it, you might be unhappy and sue him. I personally am the rare one who went too big the first time, b/c everyone said i would regret it if i did not. But i regret going too big the first time, and having to pay for a second surgery. it's much harder to go down a size and make the skin look good. it's easier to go up a size.

Here is my opinion! why would they tell u to go bigger? they want to have business in the future and they usually dont recommend it unless the patient wants it. its an expensive procedure so they know if u get smaller implants most likely u will come back and get them bigger! when i went in i was totally informed, i saw lots of pics of sizes on websites so i knew that 500ccs in not that big for me it would be perfect, and it is!!!!!! i rather go bigger than smaller personally! most girls dont really look into it that much they say 300ccs will take them to a d when it takes them to a c???????????????????????some girls are scared going big in the beginning, why be scared, it really doesnt hurt more!!! other women like small implants so they just go for small b. i think this is my understanding so far. im not planning on changing size for ten at least im happy with my D.

Good question. When I went to my PS he was great. He really looks at each person and their body and determines what implant would fit, work with their body, etc. For me, I had little breast tissue and was really tight. I told him I wanted to be a D and he said he could get me in the big C/small D range (I ended up being a DD, woohoo!). What my PS also does is when you pick out your sizer, he goes one size up. So I liked the 375 so he went with 400. In the futue when I have to have them switched out I will see if I can go bigger. The main concern for me is that my boobs like normal and not totally fake.

I had looked at lots of before and afters of girls who were close to what I was pre-op and in particular there was one girl who I just thought was PERFECT who was actually a patient of his and I said "I want that."
He did explain that the outcome can be different for every woman even if two women have practically identical breasts pre-op and they get the exact same implants. The end result can still look substantially different. Also I remember we tried several implants in a crop top. I tried on a range from 250-300cc and I initially thought the 300 looked beyond huge on me and he said "When you dont have a lot, even a little looks huge. You'll get used to your new look so to be honest you are better to go with the bigger implant. The most common complaint from women is 'I wish I had gone bigger.' not very often do you hear a woman say 'I wish I'd gone smaller.'" So my surgeon was good in the aspect that he listened to what you wanted but if you were stuck on a couple of sizes, he'd encourage you to go with the larger implant.

My PS started me out at 325 cc's and it was so hard to tell in the sizers what it was going to look like for real. He's pretty conservative and it was actually his assistant that kept giving me larger sizes. We agreed on 500 cc's and then the day of my surgery I went to 540cc's. I actually wanted to go larger, but he looked at my width and the width of the implants and this was as high as he recommended.

My doctor listened to me first and told me that most of "her" patients want to be conservative. She gave me options and for me the biggest deal was my clothing and I didn't want all of my shirts to be given away so I did the rice test. I also thought about my age and added a few years. Most of my friends that are naturaly large breasted run across looking matronly. Some like this look and are fine with it but I didn't want that for me. HTH. I think by far size is the hardest thing to get right for the doctor and the patient.
