Just heard from a very old internet friend who is a survivor. With her latest bout she is trying to decide about a double mastectomy. I've written to tell her I can link her here. In the meantime, she mentions having a consult coming in August with a Dr. Mofid - plastic surgeon. Any info? Thanks!!

will be hopeful that she will come here and seek info from these awesome ladies on this awesome forum. It amazes me how much this helps one when others have experienced what they are goin' thru.

Hi Jackie........I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I haven't heard of Dr. Mofid. I would encourage your friend to find out as much as she can about this PS....and to see what incision, etc. he is going to use on her.

It is important they are a good match - patient to PS - as this is a long road she is on. My sister went with the first PS she consulted with for her bilateral mastectomy, and it ended up not being a good match at all.

She is now at - Dr. Turpin - in Orange, Ca.
Turpin

He practices out of St. Joesph's in Orange.
This PS does amazing nipple reconstructions.

I will keep your friend in my prayers sweetie......it is indeed a very difficult journey. Hugs!

Thanks, Everyone. I will contact her privately, again She had sent a general e-mail to several of us who have kept in touch over the years. I'm not even sure what part of California she is in. But I've let her know of this forum and invited her to join us. I'll let you know the updates. Thanks for opening your hearts.

OK, thanks, again, Everyone. I've heard from her and sent her the link to get here. I wasn't sure if there was something special she had to do to post - so if there is, let me know and I'll pass that info along. If she shows - her name is Debbie and she has a wicked sense of humor, so don't be shocked! LOL

aw Jackie, thanks for the link, the invite, etc! you To everyone else, thank you for being so welcoming.

my story is this... (have a seat) i was dx in 2002 with stage 3a Breast cancer. 4 of 14 nodes positive. i had 3 very lage turmors... all 5cm. two in my breast one in my armpit. i had a surgical biopsy, a partial mastectomy on the right. because it was such a large amount of breast taken away, the oncologist categorized it as a partial mastectomy. At the time of the surgery, i was 46, i had the option of mastectomy, but chose my vanity, and took the easier route. well, i THOUGHT it would be easier. i went thru chemo, and radiation. Since then, i've had 7 needle biopsies.

I had mammograms in April and June for lumps, and there were changes in my calcifications since my last mammo in November. so my doctor referred me to the surgeon to discuss. She wanted to monitor the changes over 3 months and then have me come back. Thats when i asked about Mastectomy. i told her i was 53, and that these 'things' were nothing but a hinderance, and i wanted to take them out before they took me out. She agreed and referred me to the plastic surgeon, Dr Mofid.

Dr Mofid has a few offices, i'm seeing him in Chula Vista since we live so far from his other office, and CHula is only an hour away LOL. I have an appt with him August 12th.

i have zillions of questions. But i will float and read up as best i can. i do know that my insurance will cover it. At first i thought 'hmm, i'd LOVE not to deal with breasts anymore' i mean, i've been a 38DD since 1974. But then i thought, 'i'd love new and perky'. Anyhow, i have a strange, warped, sense of humor, and thats how i deal with anything, so feel free to laugh!

ps i'm a type2 diabetic

Welcome!!! I am here in San Diego as well, so if you need anything at all, please let me know. I have heard of this Dr, but know of other good ones as well that are here by word of mouth. It's always good to get a few opinions to make an educated decision... especially with something like this. What part of town are you in?

[QUOTE=Deb56;155056]aw Jackie, thanks for the link, the invite, etc! you To everyone else, thank you for being so welcoming.
Hey, Deb, I'm so glad you made it here. You will find these women so wonderful, knowledgable and helpful. Read the "members stories" and try to go back in this thread for lots of background info. I know you are doing your own research, too.
May I remind you to watch the diet. I know you are as notorious as I am about NOT keeping the diabetic diet! But if you are going to do surgery you need to be sure your body is as healthy as you can make it, starting NOW, so drop the chocolate! :locked:
By the way - I don't know if I told you but I did finally go ahead with breast reduction - twice! No more "G's" for me - I'm a perfect C! It's wonderful. Yet I still have the polycystic crap to deal with - just had another ultrasound on Monday. So far it just looks like another cyst. I refuse to worry until someone tells me to!
So - again, welcome in, Deb - and thanks to all for helping my friend!
