Tricyclic Medications (Antidepressants)
Tricyclic
antidepressants have the ability to sometimes interact with certain medications
that are used during surgery, dental procedures or emergency treatment. These
interactions could in crease the likelihood of unwanted side effects. It is very
important to make sure you tell your surgeon or physician before any surgical or
dental procedures that you are being maintained on this class of
antidepressants. Tricyclic antidepressants also have the ability of changing the
results of certain medical tests.
Life-threatening
reactions, such as extremely high blood pressure, may occur when tricyclic
antidepressants are taken with other antidepressants called monoamine oxidase
(MAO) inhibitors (such as Nardil and Parnate).
